America's Air Connection System Designs
It is imperative that you get a properly sized system with a properly sized ducting design for ultimate comfort and efficiency, not to mention the lifespan of the system.
System Sizing
FACT: To make your home more comfortable and your system efficient, you need the correct sized system
If you oversize a Heat Pump or gas furnace system, the equipment has too high of a BTU content, and in turn, too high of CFM (Cubic feet per minute) air movement. The system will turn on and change the air temperature in your home in a matter of minutes. Sounds good...."Don't want the dang thing running all the time, costing me money"
FACT: It takes approximately 3 minutes for a Heat Pump/Air Conditioner to obtain its highest efficient run mode.
This is due to the compression and pumping of a refrigerant and oil through coils, (kind of like the radiator on a car). If you oversize, the system will not run in a "high" efficiency mode often, due to the fact that it warms up or cools down too fast in the house and the thermostat turns the system off just as it begins to reach it's higher efficient run mode. Over-sizing is a cause to "short cycling". To find the proper sized system, professional Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning Contractors will perform a "Heat Load Calculation". Your homes square footage, the type and number of windows and many other factors will determine your system size. How much insulation is in your attic? Or what direction your house faces? These are just a couple of the many criteria that can affect the size of your homes system. We offer a personalized heat load calculation. This will show you what size heat pump, furnace, or air handler will best suit your needs.
Placement of Equipment
FACT: Manufacturers will instruct a central location for equipment.

Ducting Designs
FACT: Each room has its own size and requires its own BTU and CFM requirements.
If our heat load calculation shows a house needs a 3-ton system, we then have 1200 CFM of air to move and distribute. We know that a 6" duct run will deliver approx. 100 CFM. So what many contractors will do is run (12) 6" ducts through out your home, using 2 of the 6" ducts in the bigger rooms. Makes it fast and easy, but will give a wide range of temperature from room to room. In this house there are 2 bedrooms, both 10x12. One has only 1 exterior wall with 1 window, and the other has 2 exterior walls and 2 windows. The first room only requires 68 CFM (a 5 duct run), and the second bedroom requires 106 CFM, therefore a 6 duct run is correct. The 6x8 bathroom with a 6 exterior wall only requires 38 CFM (a 4 duct run).
